InsideOutsiders Mary Heilmann and Friends at The Fireplace Project, East Hampton, NY

With temperatures reaching almost 100 last week here in New York, we decided we needed a little break from the city and headed out east to the beach. Before we reached our destination we made a stop at The Fireplace Project in East Hampton to view a new art show by Mary Heilmann.

Inspired by surf culture and the ocean wave’s relation to geometry, Mary and friends created a series of paintings that examine the way angles are formed in the surf and how that wave came to be. Mary says about her inspiration, “I think about where the swell has started far away around the globe. I imagine myself inside or outside the break, or way down under the water at the bottom of the swell”

The exhibit is only open through July 16th. Grab your surfboards and stop by the Fireplace project for a little art inspiration before hitting the waves.
